'Sorry' first of all because I'm still picking the bones out of some of the cool shit I missed out on last year so this isn't new, it came out in May but I only got turned onto these gals via some of the end of year listings. It ain't hard to tell why White Lung have turned a few heads - this is some of the most bitchin' punk rock I've heard in a long time, they come straight out of the traps at full tilt and keep your nose to the grindstone for ten tracks crammed into twenty minutes of frantic piss and vinegar punk assault. Singer Mish Way has a killer voice sculpted in the tampon-tossing heyday of the early 90s riot grrrl movement and she leads the charge over a relentless pummelling laid down by her bandmates - there's barely a pause for breath across the ten tracks on show here, the girls (and token bloke) demand your undivided attention and sound like they'd probably rip your arms off and beat you to death with them should you refuse. The rollicking low-rent punk on offer here is pitch perfect for shitty venue mayhem and there's shades of every pissed off girl band you've ever loved from the rampaging venom of Bikini Kill to the gleeful slurry of L7 with even a pinch of Brody Dalle at her most yowling peak. It's good to have some ladies who can go out there and put a foot up in the ass too - this shit is going to sound GREAT live and hopefully White Lung will bag themselves a decent touring run to get out and melt some faces with their ovaries-out assault. It'd also be a welcome change to have some journalists pay a bit of well-deserved attention to a girl band whose music rules rather than trotting out another ream of lazy garbage about Pussy Riot without even bothering to listen to their material - if you really give that much of a fuck about girl punk then why not go out and see one of the numerous decent chick bands out there putting in the hours every night on tour instead of just reinforcing the patronising attitudes that exist towards women in rock? 'Sorry' bowls strikes with every shot and then romps off home to leave you picking your jaw up off the floor - you probably won't have to trek out to a fucking Gulag to hear it played live either. Go get!
